Meet Sam

Sam Mabry is widely respected for his skill in managing complex litigation. He defends clients in class actions, business, commercial and financial services litigation and products liability actions involving drugs and medical devices. Sam has also handled employment contracts disputes and patent and trade secret litigation.

Sam has defended nationwide class actions in the Southeast as:

  • •  Member of the defense steering committee and national coordinating counsel for Star Pharmaceuticals in the L-Tryptophan federal multi-district litigation
  • •  Member of the defense steering committee in the breast implant litigation in South Carolina
  • •  Lead trial counsel in several alleged nationwide class actions representing financial institutions and drug companies

EXPERIENCE

  • •  Represented a national bank in the South Carolina Court of Appeals in a case that established the principle that a bank-holding company is not subject to jurisdiction or liability for acts committed by its subsidiaries
  • •  Represented The Money Store in a nationwide class action involving more that 55,000 claimants alleging that interest on certain types of loans had been incorrectly calculated
  • •  Defended as lead counsel a class action suit brought on behalf of approximately 300,000 claimants against political subdivisions of South Carolina seeking to recover in excess of $100 million of tax-refund setoffs
  • •  Defended as lead counsel a class action brought on behalf of approximately 60,000 claimants alleging a violation of the Federal Truth-In-Lending Act
  • •  Defended as lead counsel class action lawsuits in South Carolina and Tennessee alleging violations of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act
  • •  Served as co-lead counsel with another firm lawyer representing four South Carolina hospitals in the South Carolina Hospital Pricing Litigation. Along with another attorney, argued an appeal in this litigation to the South Carolina Supreme Court, King v. AnMed, where the amount at issue exceeded $500 million in alleged overcharges to hospital patients
