Launching Innovista: World-Class Research Center in Columbia
Innovative financing assures support for high-tech development
Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd played a role in development of Innovista—the University of South Carolina’s research community in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.
One vital element of Innovista is Discovery Plaza—site of the university’s new biomedical research building and a building with space for private firms, including several with research relationships with the school.
The adjacent 1,400-space parking garage for Discovery Plaza was one focus of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd. We assisted a major bank in extending credit to finance construction of the $18 million parking deck.
The partnership that made the complex financing possible included participation by the University of South Carolina, the City of Columbia through the Columbia Parking Facilities Corporation, and Richland County. The result is an innovative combination of tax-exempt bonds and conventional financing.
