Public-Private Partnership Satisfies Tradition and Future Needs
Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd guides project over planning and zoning hurdles
A public-private partnership—a developer working with a major university—came to us for help in developing an urban research campus—a landmark undertaking that would encompass three city blocks.
The location—in a downtown development district—presented significant zoning, planning and design challenges. But experience in similar cases had taught us the importance of respecting the development standards expected by the local government and community.
We drafted documentation for two planned-unit developments and successfully shepherded both applications through the Planning Commission and City Council, where we were able to meet the requirements for height, setbacks, use, design and parking, thus enabling the parties to go forward with this important public-private venture.
