John Tiller is a deeply experienced and widely respected trial lawyer and mediator.
He focuses primarily on products liability, premises liability and personal injury actions—including complex matters involving numerous plaintiffs.
On March 8, he was named the 2012 "SC Litigator of the Year" by Benchmark Litigation, the only publication on the market to focus exclusively on litigation in the United States. Also, Mr. Tiller has been named the Best Lawyers' 2012 Charleston-SC Product Liability Litigation Lawyer of the Year and recognized for Product Liability Litigation; and Personal Injury Litigation. He is listed in South Carolina Super Lawyers for Personal Injury - Products: Defense.
In a recent case, he resolved 548 claims against an asphalt-paving contractor. The claims stemmed from motor vehicle accidents that allegedly resulted from defective road construction and design. An attempt to certify the claims in a class action was defeated.
Mr. Tiller then successfully guided all 548 cases (including 12 deaths and 12 brain-injury claims) through mediation.
He is a certified mediator. A South Carolina native, he is respected by both defendants’ and plaintiffs’ counsel as an effective trial lawyer who is familiar with the bench and bar in local South Carolina. His reputation and experience have served him well in fostering the resolution of cases through mediation and trial when necessary.
