Dewey Oxner is nationally recognized for excellence in defense of medical malpractice and products-liability cases.
A trial lawyer for more than 40 years, he has successfully tried more than 100 cases to jury verdict.
Mr. Oxner is the lawyer most often requested by physicians and insurance companies alike—a feat few lawyers achieve. He is often called upon by doctors and hospitals to represent them in birth defect, brain injury and other cases involving significant injuries and diseases.
He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® from its first edition to present. In 2012, he was named the Best Lawyers’ Greenville Health Care Law Lawyer of the Year. He is also recognized in Chambers USA - The Client’s Guide as the “Senior Statesman” among all South Carolina Litigators. He is included in South Carolina Super Lawyers® magazine for Medical Malpractice.
Mr. Oxner is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and served for two years as its state chairman, and also has served as state chair of the American Board of Trial Advocacy.
He has served as the president of the South Carolina Bar Association and as president of its Senior Lawyer Division. He is a former board member and treasurer of The Defense Research Institute, Inc., and former president of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association.
From 1995 to 1998, he was the managing partner of Haynsworth, Marion, McKay & Guérard, a predecessor to our Firm.
HONORS
In 2010, the South Carolina Bar Foundation presented him with the DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award, the most prestigious statewide award members of the Bar can bestow on fellow attorneys.
In 2008, Mr. Oxner was presented the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association’s Compleat Lawyer Platinum Award, which recognizes high standards of professionalism and performance. In 2007, The Greenville County Bar Association presented Mr. Oxner the Tommy Thomason Award, the highest honor that the Bar Association can bestow.
He has also received the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association’s Robert W. Hemphill Award and the Jeter E. Rhodes, Jr. Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates.
