The Firm’s public finance group has consistently ranked among the largest bond counsel practices in the Southeast. Our fifteen attorneys have served as bond counsel, special tax counsel, underwriter’s counsel, letter of credit bank counsel and derivatives counsel in connection with billions of dollars of tax-exempt bond issues for general government, utility, healthcare, housing, schools, colleges and universities, public power, transportation, manufacturing, waste disposal and energy projects.

RECENT MATTERS

  • Our attorneys recently served as president of the National Association of Bond Lawyers and several are members of the American College of Bond Counsel
  • We have led the way in structuring innovative non-traditional project financing techniques, including public/private partnerships, installment purchase financings, municipal improvement districts financings and accommodations/hospitality tax-backed financings
  • Have served as co-bond and lead tax counsel for aggregate of $1.2 billion of revenue bonds issued by the State of South Carolina securitized by tobacco settlement payments to the State
  • Represented over 20 domestic and international companies obtaining industrial development multi-family housing and solid-waste financing in the Southeast in several million dollars of project financings
  • Represented underwriters in the issuance of in excess of $2 billion in tax-exempt university student housing financings in 18 states
  • Served as bond counsel for major sports coliseums projects in Charleston, Columbia and Greenville, South Carolina, including varsity football and baseball facilities for Clemson University and the University of South Carolina 
  • We serve as bond counsel to major South Carolina municipalities (including Charleston, Greenville, Spartanburg) in the issuance of water and sewer revenue bonds
  • Served as bond counsel for general obligation bond, lease-purchase financings and installment purchase revenue bond issues for numerous school districts, municipalities, counties and special purpose districts across South Carolina
