John Tiller Named "SC Litigator of the Year"

Benchmark Litigation recognized John H. Tiller, Shareholder, Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., as the 2012 “SC Litigator of the Year” at the inaugural awards ceremony for the Southeast region, held Thursday, March 8, in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Tiller is based in the law firm’s Charleston office and is also a member of the firm’s three-member Management Committee, representing litigation.

Benchmark Litigation is the only publication on the market to focus exclusively on litigation in the United States. According to the guidelines, the list of “local litigation stars” for each state was developed by extensive interviews with the nation’s leading private practice lawyers and in-house counsel.These interviews were conducted between January and June 2011, which identified the firms and attorneys who have displayed the ability to consistently handle complex, high-stakes cases in multiple jurisdictions.

Concentrating primarily on products liability, premises liability and personal injury actions – including complex matters involving numerous plaintiffs, Mr. Tiller has been listed in the “Best Lawyers®’ 2012 Charleston-SC Product Liability Litigation Lawyer of the Year” and included in South Carolina Super Lawyers ™ – Personal Injury Defense: Products. He is a former president of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) for the Charleston chapter. The SC native received his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1987, and his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston.

Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., a SC-based law firm, was nominated in two additional categories, including “SC Firm of the Year,” and “SC Case of the Year” (Relates to Federal action against national bank, plaintiffs alleged bank violated Fair Credit Reporting Act).

The first award ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel was attended by nominees from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
