USC School of Law announces 2012 Compleat Lawyer Award recipients

Established in 1992, the Compleat Lawyer Award is the School of Law’s highest recognition of professional achievement and civic leadership by the school’s alumni. USC Law Dean Robert Wilcox says because the award recipients are nominated by other lawyers and selected by a panel of leaders from the state court and state bar, the Compleat Lawyer Award is considered one of the most prestigious awards that any graduate can receive.

“The service and professional accomplishments of this year’s recipients are remarkable, reflecting work in public interest careers, large and small firms and the federal judiciary,” said Wilcox “The University of South Carolina has for many years produced excellent lawyers who have served the public selflessly. This year’s class of recipients reflects that tradition of extraordinary talent and professionalism.”

The awards are in three categories based on years in practice: Platinum (more than 30 years), Gold (15 - -30 years) and Silver (15 years or less). The award recipients will be recognized at the USC School of Law’s annual alumni dinner April 19 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

James H. “Jeddie” Suddeth III, shareholder with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. in Charleston, was honored with the Silver award.

Compleat Lawyer Award recipients are nominated by members of the South Carolina Bar and are chosen by a committee comprising the chief justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, the chief judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, the president of the South Carolina Bar and the USC School of Law’s dean and the president of its alumni association.
