Kathy McKinney to Chair Independent College and University Board

The South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees elected Kathleen C. (Kathy) McKinney to serve as chair at a recent meeting on the campus of Anderson University. 

McKinney is a shareholder in the Greenville office of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd. She succeeds Henri Etta Baskins, executive director of the Greater Columbia Human Relations Council.

A Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel, Kathy is a nationally recognized lawyer for her work in tax-exempt financing. She serves as bond counsel for many of South Carolina’s colleges and universities, hospitals, foundations, continuing care centers, and cultural centers. In 2010, she was named an Independent Director of the FHLBanks Office of Finance Board of Directors. She is the first South Carolinian to hold this position. Kathy is also the former president of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) and this year was given the Frederick O. Kiel Distinguished Service Award for extraordinary service to NABL.

Kathy is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® – Economic Development Law; Public Finance Law and Chambers USA. In April 2013, she was honored by the University of South Carolina School of Law with its Compleat Lawyer Award - Platinum. In 2012, Greenville Business Magazine named her as one of Greenville's "Women Who Lead". She was also profiled in the publication's August 2009 edition as one of "Three Local Lawyers Raising the Bar" courtesy of Chambers and Partners and in the January 2010, she was named one of the "50 Most Influential" in Greenville.
