Scott Barnes Joins Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd's Charleston Office

Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. is proud to announce Scott Y. Barnes as Special Counsel in the firm’s Meeting Street office. Scott is a Certified Tax Specialist, and practices in the areas of corporate & business law, mergers & acquisitions, and real estate tax planning.

He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for Corporate and Tax Law and was named Charleston “Lawyer of the Year” for 2011 in Corporate Law and 2012 for Tax Law. He is also listed in South Carolina Super Lawyers® for Tax.

A graduate of Vanderbilt University in 1969, Scott received a J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1973 and an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University in 1976.

He is published in The Journal of Taxation, South Carolina Lawyer, and co-authored the South Carolina treatise, Limited Liability Companies and Limited Liability Partnerships.

Scott is a former chairman of the South Carolina Bar Association Tax Section, a member of the American Bar Association Tax Section and Partnership Subcommittee and a fellow of the American College of Tax Lawyers. He served on the Governor’s Economic Development Incentives Committee, was an adjunct professor of law at the University of South Carolina Law School, and is currently an adjunct professor at the Charleston School of Law. He is a former chairman of the Board of Trustees of Charleston Day School, a former trustee and President of the Lowcountry Open Land Trust, and has served as a trustee of the Community Foundation Serving Coastal South Carolina, the Charleston Area Community Development Corporation and the Gibbes Museum of Art. He is currently a trustee and former President of the Southern Federal Tax Institute and President of the Church Street Historic Foundation.
