Charlton deSaussure, Jr. Named 2021 Best Lawyers® "Lawyer of the Year" for Public Finance Law in Charleston

Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd is proud to announce that Charlton deSaussure, Jr. was recently recognized by Best Lawyers as the 2021 "Lawyer of the Year" for Public Finance Law in Charleston.

Charlton is a leader in both public finance law and the Charleston community. As a public finance attorney, he has served as bond counsel for political subdivisions in the issuance of both tax-exempt and taxable borrowings for over 40 years.

Charlton has helped find financing solutions for public/private partnerships, including approximately $700 million FHA-insured hospital revenue bonds and indebtedness critical to urban revitalization efforts throughout South Carolina, including tax increment revenue bonds, utility revenue bonds and general obligation bonds. In addition to his association with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd since 1978, Charlton served as the City of Charleston’s Corporation Counsel from 2003-2016.

Within the Charleston community, he has served as President of the South Carolina Historical Society, the Gibbes Museum of Art and the Coastal Community Foundation and on the Boards of Spoleto Festival USA, the Charleston Museum and the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Center for Livable Communities.
